Introduction

The art of baking has been practised for millennia. Once upon a time, it must have marked a huge revolution for our species. The ability to harness the land, taking grains and turning them into food. We can only imagine how much that must have changed our society. Suddenly, we no longer had to go to food. We could grow it. In essence, with a little hard work, that food would come to us.

The ability to make that bread at home marks another, smaller revolution. I write this at the tail end of lockdown, when the world has gone baking crazy. Something about making bread at home is wonderfully exciting. It seems to give us that same sense of reassurance it must once have given our newly empowered ancestors. Whether you’d like to make home made white bread or homemade brioche burger buns, I’ve got the perfect recipe for you!
